The Palace at Somerset Park Wedding of Shilpi and Anish

Highlights from Shilpi and Anish’s wedding at The Palace at Somerset Park:

Shilpi’s dad contacted me about his daughter’s upcoming hindu wedding just a few short weeks before it happened. He felt it was important to capture it and enjoyed my work online, and was referred to me by one of my own past clients, who is now also a wedding photographer. It was going to be a smaller event. Many Indian weddings are HUGE gatherings, but they kept this to close family and friends, and more intimate.

The Sangeet was held at the Palace in Somerset Park in Somerset NJ, followed by a ceremony the following morning in her parent’s back yard. The Sangeet is a party where family and friends sing, dance, and celebrate the upcoming wedding of the couple. This one featured a couple of her friends as MC’s hosts introducing different acts, while interjecting their own humor throughout. Acts included speeches by dad and some close friends, singing by mom and some family and friends, and a few dance performances including some featuring the bride.

Indian weddings in general are very colorful, especially the ceremony. There are lots of little symbols and prayers, including a little fire which represents light, power and knowledge. The couple is married after walking around the fire 4 times. Then they take 7 steps together which are essentially their marriage vows, completing the ceremony. This is what the 7 steps represent which I think is quite lovely:
With the first step, we will provide for and support each other.
With the second step, we will develop mental, physical & spiritual strength.
With the third step, we will share the worldly possessions.
With the fourth step, we will acquire knowledge, happiness and peace.
With the fifth step, we will raise strong and virtuous children.
With the sixth step, we will enjoy the fruits of all seasons.
With the seventh step, we will always remain friends and cherish each other.

Our best wishes to the happy couple for a wonderful life together, and thanks again to Shilpi’s dad for choosing us to capture the beautiful wedding!

Crystal Point Yacht Club Wedding of Nicole and Robert

Highlights from Nicole and Robert’s Wedding at The Crystal Point Yacht Club:

Nicole and Robert were referred to us by their friends Christina and Alex, whose wedding we filmed shortly before theirs, and who were in the bridal party. Nicole and Robert almost went without videography, but Christina convinced them to get it just a few weeks before the wedding.

I started out with Nicole and the girls getting ready at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lakewood. One she was dressed she had a very sweet first look with her dad. Then it was off to the Crystal Point Yacht Club to do a first look with her future husband Robert. Once we had him in a nice spot Nicole walked up for a beautiful reveal, followed by some great shots of the happy couple together along with bridal party.

Then it was time for the ceremony at Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Point Pleasant Beach. Nicole sang a special song to her groom acapella, and everyone was blown away by her beautiful voice. We used the song she sang as part of the highlights, and it worked so nicely combined with some bits of the amazing speeches from their reception back at the Crystal Point Yacht Club.

I loved that we were able to align the best man talking about their grandparents 67 years of marriage, with the lyrics of the song talking about the very same thing. Kismet! The parent dances were fun especially once the music switched up and dad started stripping off his coat, haha. The rest of the night was just dancing, drinking, and full on partying. It was a beautiful day for a beautiful couple.

The Valley Crest Farm Wedding of Meredith and Kenneth

Watch their gorgeous highlights here:

Meredith and Kenneth’s day started with coverage of them getting ready at the Courtyard Marriot in Lebanon NJ, where they saw each other for the first time that day. Then it was off to Downtown Clinton by the Red Mill Museum for some great shots with the bridal party and the couple on the Bridge, and by this beautiful and lush Rock wall. This was followed by a couple stops at Valley Crest Farm in Lebanon NJ where the ceremony and reception would be held. First at a white barn near a silo, and then on the road to the farm for some woodsy shots, and finally on the farm itself.

There was a beautiful pond, and a huge tree where the ceremony was held, plus the reception area had a rustic farmer’s market feel to it. For the ceremony the guests were invited to make their own dried herbs and flowers mixture in a paper cone which they tossed at the bride and groom at the end. Each herb and flower represented something important to marriage, like lavendar for kindness, and roses for love, and sage for wisdom, and oregano for patience.

After the ceremony guests enjoyed popcorn and drinks, including some fruity iced teas, before making their way uphill to the reception. At the reception there was a cigar bar, and some games set up for guests to enjoy, like the bean bag toss. This was a non-traditional reception, and so there were no intro, no first dance, no parent dances, and no cake cutting. There were toasts however, which were all great. Listen to what the dad says, it’s very sweet, and the maid of honor’s rap was funny. We’re filming her wedding this May!!

They wanted to be very non-traditional, so there was no first dance, no parent dances, no cake cutting, etc. I was able to capture a shot of Meredith dancing with her dad at one point, although not a slow song, but unfortunately I never got a shot of Ken with his mom. If you think you might cherish those moments, or that your parents would, don’t be afraid to be traditional, at least for a few minutes 😉

It was an absolutely gorgeous day with lots of unique and creative touches throughout, and I’m thrilled they loved the highlights. I even got a note from her dad who said it was “Super Fantastic”. Congrats again Meredith and Kenneth!!

Here’s her review on WeddingWire

“Frankly, I wasn’t interested in videography for our wedding. It was something my mother wanted to have, so I did some quick searching on WeddingWire and booked with Eric because he was local, his prices fit my budget, and I really couldn’t be bothered with another decision at that point. Man, did I luck out! Our wedding highlight video is spectacular, and truly captures the best parts of the day. Our parents loved getting their blu-ray copies as their own keepsakes, too. What’s more, Eric listened to my comments on what I liked (and didn’t like) about other highlight videos and made sure to incorporate (or eliminate) elements based on my preferences. We have such a special keepsake from our day, which we honestly watch ALL THE TIME. We’ve gotten so, so many compliments, and we also have something like eight hours of raw footage we can always have re-edited into a longer video down the line if we like. Let this be a lesson– listen to your mother, she usually knows best, and hire Creative Unlimited for your videography needs.” – Meredith

Note: They really only got about 4 hours of footage. If you got 8 you would blow your brains out, haha.

The Kolo Klub Hoboken NJ Wedding of Gerry and Timothy

I met Gerry and her mom when they booked, and we had a great time at the appointment. They were recommended by Meredith and Steven whose wedding we did years earlier (they have an adorable little girl now). It was going to be a smaller wedding and at this unique industrial feeling location in Hoboken called the Kolo Klub, to which I had never been.

On the wedding day I started with the girls at the W Hotel in Hoboken NJ. When I first arrived I gave Gerry a call to ask what she was able to see outsider her window, and if she had a balcony. She told me she could see the Hudson, so I knew which side of the hotel she was on and asked her to go stand out on her balcony and wave. Thought it would be a cool shot from down below, and she was joined by her mom and sister. After that I got on up to their room and started covering them finishing up hair and makeup, and getting some detail shots of the dress, shoes, etc.

Pete started with the Guys arriving at the hotel. I swung on down to say hello and meet Tim. I was happy to see that he was and perfect fit for Gerry and a great guy. They met in the Hotel restaurant’s outdoor patio, and then proceeded to take some shots together, with their small bridal party, and then with family outside the hotel. Then it was off to the Kolo Klub for a few more great shots before the ceremony. It was a Jewish Ceremony, very dimly lit for a nice mood, and very personal. Then the staff broke things down while the guests mingled and got some of the cocktail food. They had some delicious passed appetizers, including a yummy plantain empanada.

The was a non-traditional kind of day, so there were no big introductions, but there was a first dance, and some fun toasts. The rest of the night was just dancing dancing dancing, and everyone had a great time. I definitely LOVED the unique factory look of this place, and for a smaller event it was perfect. It was a beautiful day for a fun loving couple 😉
