Brooklyn Botanical Gardens Wedding

We had a great wedding at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens this past Saturday. Dave and I were up bright and early to get there by 8:30am. We even had time to stop for breakfast. Unfortunately there was an issue with the makeup artist, and so Giovanna and Joe, the bride and groom, arrived late and we weren’t able to take family and bridal party shots before the ceremony like we planned. Not always, but too often there are delays because of the hair stylist or the makeup artist, so I always say to start an hour earlier than you think you need to. Better to be early, than rushed and running late.

While we waited we chatted with Lenny and Vlad their photographers, and checked out the area for some shot ideas. Dave and I also started filming details. I must have at least 10 minutes of shots of just flowers, fountains, and the glass reception hall. Really nice location. Giovanna and Joe arrived and we started filming as much as we could before the ceremony started. I helped get the boutonnieres on the guys (by the way that is one hard word to spell). I have plenty of experience pinning those onto the lapels of tuxes. It’s an art really, haha.

The ceremony was beautiful, and featured some beautiful music and singing by some of their friends, and a few special guest Brazilian pastors for additional blessings. Thankfully most of the time there was english translation going along with the Brazilian Portuguese. That will definitely help in the editing 🙂

After the ceremony we got some great shots around the botanical gardens, but ran too short on time to make it to the Rose Gardens. So many great spots, it was easy to get beautiful shots of the bride and groom. Thankfully they had 2 camera coverage, because it definitely helped during the ceremony, and while the photographers and I were getting shots of the bridal party Dave was covering the cocktail hour.

The reception was a lot of fun, the band was pretty cool, and everyone had a great time. We got plenty of great dance footage, but we also kept an eye on Giovanna and Joe greeting all their friends. There was literally a line to take pictures with them and congratulate them, haha. I was able to get them out for a few more shots by the pools just outside the hall before the end of the reception. It was a beautiful day, plus we were done around 5pm, so we had the rest of the day to relax and enjoy the sun. Congrats Giovanna and Joe.

Wedding at The Imperia in Somerset

We had a great wedding this past weekend right in our neighborhood at the Imperia on Easton of Somerset, NJ.  The bride, Faith, was getting ready just across the street from our office at the Double Tree Hotel.  The groom, Ed, at their home 3 minutes away.  I was with Faith, and Rahim was capturing the guys getting ready.Faith was very laid back and when I arrived they were watching Panic Room.  I got them caught up on the finer points of the film, being that my memory for movies is amazingly detailed and accurate, haha.

The ceremony was at the historic Kirkpatrick Chapel in New Brunswick, and it was an interfaith Christian and Jewish wedding, with my favorite Rabbi Tobin.  The ceremony went really well, one of the bridesmaids sang a beautiful rendition of Ave Maria,  opera style, very sweet.  The only “outtake” moment came when one of the groomsmen realized a little too late that the runner hadn’t gone up the aisle, and so about halfway up the aisle he met up with Faith and her Dad.  The look on his face was priceless, haha, but they were able to maneuver around him, and I’m sure it will be a story they’ll be sharing for many years, unfortunately for that groomsman, haha.

Afterwards we got some great shots on the church grounds with photographer Erica Lyn.  She was a lot of fun to work with and we worked off each other very well.  Faith and Ed were very open to being creative with some shots. That always helps. The reception followed at The Imperia in Somerset, just around the corner from our office.  You can’t ask for anything better than that.

The reception was a lot of fun, and there was plenty of great dance footage.  We captured a very sweet moment with Faith’s Grandparents dancing to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Wow, 50 years. Her grandparents are so cute together, I honestly got choked up watching them hold each other and dance by their table. Her grandfather got to me, cause he was getting emotional too. Really great to see love so strong so many years later.

Faith and Ed were out on the dance floor a lot.  Always a good idea at your own wedding 🙂 I was able to grab them for one quick effect shot in the Imperia lobby using their beautiful staircase for a Stop-Motion effect. At the end of the night there was a Candy Buffet featuring some favorites like gummy bears, peanut butter cups, whoppers, hershey’s kisses, and I’m clearly getting too detailed about the candy, but I enjoyed bagging some up for later, as did the other guests.  It was demolished, haha.  Mmmm.  Congrats Faith and Ed on a beautiful wedding.

Angela and Alex’s Atlantic City Wedding

I had a great weekend at the Atlantic City Wedding of Angela and Alex.  Congrats again guys.  The wedding took place at Caeser’s in their huge Palladium Ballroom on Saturday May 16th.  I drove down the day before with my girlfriend Abbie because the wedding started super early the next day, and figured we could make a weekend of it.  When we arrived I went around filming some fun shots of Atlantic city, and of Caeser’s, then we enjoyed some boardwalk junk food and did a little gambling, which was fun, although that day the house won.

I was up bright and early, ready to start filming at 8am.  Abbie went off to explore the city and I went to capture Angela getting ready.  Since she was running a little late, I was able to get some great footage of her getting her hair and makeup done in the hotel salon.

She was in a traditional Chinese dress for a tea ceremony in their hotel room.  If you’re not familiar with this custom, the bride and groom receive gifts, blessings, and congrats from close members their families, and show their respect and gratitude by serving each person tea.  Afterwards she changed into a beautiful wedding dress for the rest of the day.  Then it was time for the ceremony.

The ceremony was officiated by their friend, and it was very personal and heartfelt and pretty funny actually. Once the ceremony was done we went out to the boardwalk for some fun and quick bridal party shots, during their cocktail hour.  It was interesting working with their photographer Jeff.  His style is very journalistic and laid back, like us.  It was great, and I almost stepped on him a couple of times, haha.  Unfortunately you can’t take photos by slots or the gambling areas, due to restrictions.  I do wish we had more time to get some fun AC shots, but we all got some great stuff.

The reception was low key, some great music playing.  Besides their first dance and a lovely toast, there weren’t many traditional events, like parent dances, cake cutting, etc.  It was fun to catch up with the Bride and Groom that recommended us to Angela and Alex.  Michelle and Brian told me about their 6 month old daughter, and even showed me pics.  The party kicked into full gear for the last hour, and I got plenty of fun dance footage.  The DJ did a great job of mixing actually, some 80’s in there with the new stuff.  I’m always happy to be a part of such a great day.

Afterwards Abbie and I went out for some more AC fun, and a little gambling.  Thankfully that day I broke even at the Spanish 21 table, but overall, the HOUSE ALWAYS WINS, haha.  Overall a great weekend.

Jersey Shore Wedding Videographer – Jessica and Kenny

We filmed Jessica and Kenny’s wedding on May 8th. We started off at the Ocean Place resort and spa in Long Branch. Jessica was getting ready with her bridesmaids and parents. It was very laid back as everyone got their makeup done. We got a really cool Stop-Motion shot with her flowers and dress. I know they’ll love that one. It was perfect weather, sunny but with a cool breeze.

I left Dave behind with the girls while I went to Seven Presidents beach to get set up for the ceremony and get some shots of Kenny and the guys. They were nicely dressed in their khaki suits. I like light colors, of course it makes sense on the beach, matches the sand, plus Dave and I are the only dummies wearing black on a sunny day at the beach, haha.

The ceremony went beautifully. They were handing out seashells and the guests were instructed to place them in a circle in which Jessica and Kenny would take their vows. The female officiant did a great job, she told the story of how Jessica and Kenny met at Bar Anticipation (Bar A). They even know one of our friends, since we used to hang out there a lot too, haha. Small Jersey. What was funny about the story is that Jessica is the one that initiated things with Kenny, and after all these years she finally admitted during the ceremony that when she went up to him and said “Don’t I know you from somewhere”, that it was totally a pickup line and she had never met him before, haha. Everyone got a kick out of that.

It was great working with the photographers, and talking business with them over dinner. They actually filmed our friends wedding, the one that Jessica and Kenny happen to know as well, so again, Small Jersey. I’ve seen those pics, and they were great. We definitely got a lot of great stuff on the beach with Jessica and Kenny and their bridal party.

The reception was at McLoone’s Pier House. Nice place, great view of the ocean. The party went well, there were some great speeches, and a lot of fun dancing. Thankfully they got 2 camera coverage, because the way the room was set up, it really helped for getting some great reaction shots during speeches. Jessica and Kenny are just a really sweet couple, and they had a lot of nice touches throughout their wedding. From the lemonade stand by their ceremony, to the delicious yogurt covered pretzels for their guests to take home at the end of the night, it was all very nicely done. Congrats you guys on a great wedding.
